This is the heart of Hot Keyboard - the macro tree. All your macros are displayed here. You can drag-and-drop any macro from one menu to another. Press the right mouse button to open a pop-up menu for a highlighted macro.
You can schedule the highlighted macro to execute whenever you want. To revise a schedule, use the "Scheduler..." menu item from the "Settings" menu.
Use the "Edit" button to modify the highlighted macro.
Force a shutdown of the computer even if some application has unsaved data. Use with caution so you do not lose data.
Create a new macro with Hot Keyboard.
Delete the currently selected macro. You will be asked if you are certain.
A type of shutdown. Note that if you are running Windows NT you need to set its privileges to do some of these types of shutdowns.
Enter a name for this macro. This name is what will be displayed in the macro tree. (A name must be entered.)
Enter the hot key you want to use to activate or run this macro. The macro can also be selected from a menu or run automatically by the Hot Keyboard scheduler. Note: macros cannot be activated if any Hot Keyboard dialog is showing on the screen. For a hot key use: Alt+Ctrl+[key], Ctrl+[key], Ctrl+Shift+[key], Alt+Shift+[key], WinKey+[Key], Application or other combinations
Enter the name of the folder you want a file listing of. Use the button to the right of this "Folder to open:" space to browse to the folder you want.
Here you can define the way Hot Keyboard adjusts the sound volume for you. Use these commands (N is from 0 to 255):\n N - sets the volume directly to N\n +N - increases the volume (from wherever it's at) by N\n -N - decreases the volume (wherever it's at) by N\n +N% - increases the volume by N percent\n -N% - decreases the volume by N percent\n * - mutes the sound volume on and off (toggles mute)
This button removes the schedule from the highlighted macro. The macro will not be deleted.
Press this button to insert special sequences of characters into your text, such as the current date/time. The inserted special characters may look confusing but they will work unless manually edited. To change or delete a sequence, delete the complete sequence of special characters (from the first dollar sign to the ending parenthesis) then press this button again to select the sequence you want
This list contains all the macros with schedules. Warning: a macro cannot activate on schedule if Hot Keyboard is not running or while a Hot Keyboard dialog box is displayed on the screen. The only exception is the reminder macro that activates as soon as possible if its time was missed for some reason.
Check this box to have Hot Keyboard start automatically when you start Windows.
Hot Keyboard offers you a variety of actions you can perform with the touch of a key. Select an action from this list.
Enter the text to be pasted each time this macro is activated by its hot key.
Enter the name of the program to be executed. Enclose the program name in quotation marks if it contains any spaces. (Advanced users can add Command Line Arguments after the program name)
Click this button, then type the sequence of keys you'd like to record. Later you can play back this whole sequence each time you press this macro's hot key. Press Ctrl+Break when done with sequence.
Set repeat count with this button. If you set it to zero sequence will play until you press Ctrl+Break or Escape key.
With Hot Keyboard it is easy to manipulate windows in different ways. Choose what you want to do with the currently active window.
Check this to run the program with its windows minimized.
Choose this option in case you want the macro to execute no matter what window is currently active.
Select this option to limit this macro to a specific window or group of windows. For example, you may want to execute a macro only in a specific program.
Check this option to exclude a window or group of windows from being affected by this macro.
Enter the string that window captions should (or should not) contain to have this macro activate. Use ; to separate different window titles.
Press this button to quickly browse to a program using Windows' standard dialog box.
Press this button to browse to the folder you need.
Press this key while Hot Keyboard is working to start recording a new macro.
Press this key to display the main Hot Keyboard dialog window.
Due to the absence of installed hardware or software, this kind of action cannot be done on this computer.
Press this button to change the highlighted macro's schedule. To change its action you need to go the main dialog).
Press this button to insert some special sequence of characters into your text such as the current date/time. The inserted special characters may look confusing but they will work unless manually edited. To change or delete a sequence, delete the complete sequence of special characters (from the first dollar sign to the ending parenthesis) then press this button again to select the sequence you want.
Enter the URL to browse. Upon activation of this macro your default web browser will be launched and go to this URL.
Press this button to select a URL from your list of favorites (only for Internet Explorer users). Non-IE users can select from a prepared list of URLs.
Specify which mixer line level is to be adjusted by this macro.
Choose a command to the CD player. Note: this command only works with the Windows CD Player
The text you want to replace goes into this little text box. (The purpose of Auto Replace is to greatly shorten your typing of frequently used long names, terms or even phrases. Type in this little text box a couple of letters. Then type in the big text box what you want to replace these two letters with. Write your document using just these two letters in the little text box instead of typing in the long name, term or phrase. When you are finished your document, just press the hot key for this macro to replace each instance of the two letters with the full text from the big text box. Do not use chars that require dead chars (accents, umlauts etc.) in this little text box.
This text is what replaces the shorthand text above.
Select a connection to dial from the drop-down list. This connection can be dialed with Hot Keyboard.
Check this option to turn on all the reminder boxes (intended for new users of Hot Keyboard).
This option lets you turn on or off the in-place help for the dialogs (what you are reading now). This helps new users but it can be turned off as you become familiar with Hot Keyboard.
If you press the button with the X on it (that normally closes the window and quits the program) while this option is checked, Hot Keyboard will minimize to the tray instead of closing.
Normally Hot Keyboard does not distinguish between the dedicated arrow keys and the number pad arrow keys. Check this option and Hot Keyboard will distinguish between the left-arrow only key, for example, and the number pad's left-arrow key (that is also the number 4 key). Important note: Hot Keyboard will not distinguish between these two sets of arrow keys when in the DOS window.
You can press this key and a simple reference card window with information about your currently defined macros and their hot keys will be displayed.
This button lets you print this list. The sorted sequence and relative column sizes on the printed paper will be the same as those you have set in this window.
This is a list of the macros you have defined. The hot key associated with each macro can be pressed right now or the macro can be double-clicked to activate it (unless this window was called from the Setup Wizard or the "Help" menu). You can click any column header to sort the list alphabetically within that column. Note: changing the width of a column will have the same result on the printout of this list.
If the program you are to run is already running and this option is checked, Hot Keyboard will switch to the running program instead of starting another copy of the same program.
Do not check this option unless you want to paste text into several different text fields in a form (or dialog). In this case, with this option checked, inserting into your text the special symbols TAB and ENTER will have the same effect on the form as if these keys were pressed while manually entering in this text. Uncheck this option if the text to paste in contains a symbol that cannot be gotten with a key press but can only be added from a character map.
Use this if you want to insert this text into a text editor (although we strongly recommend you do such work with the clipboard paste mode)
This will convert New Line symbols to Ctrl+Enter. It is useful if you are going to insert your text into a multi-line text field in a dialog box. Ctrl+Enter works the same as New Line in a text field but does not select the "Ok" button (as Enter would)
Check this if you want to fill in a form or dialog box with your data. Tab will navigate through the fields in the form just as if it were pressed manually.
This enables you to make your own changes to the text.
This window lets you see much more of the text you are editing than the Edit macro dialog. You can insert large amounts of text using the "from the clipboard" mode but avoid using the "play keys" mode if your text is lengthy.
This button displays the enlarged edit field.
This button displays the enlarged edit field.
Specify the complete Window title or only part of it. The matching Window will be activated when this hot key is pressed.
Usually internet browsers re-use the last active window for a new URL. This option specifies to open a new window. Note: this hot key may not work with all browsers. It works with Netscape Communicator 4.0 or higher and Internet Explorer 4.0. Other browsers have not been tested. It may work with them or possibly unpredicted results may occur.
This button inserts the $(Time:...) metasymbol into your text. Whenever this macro is activated it will insert the current date (in the particular format you have selected from the popup menu).
This button inserts the $(Time:...) metasymbol into your text. Whenever this macro is activated it will insert the current time (in the particular format you have selected from the popup menu).
This button inserts the $(Time:...) metasymbol into your text. Whenever this macro is activated it inserts the current time and date (in the particular format you have selected from the popup menu).
Click on this button to insert a $(Tab) metasymbol. It will insert either a Tab symbol or a Tab key press, depending on the insertion mode (whether the "play keys" mode is checked or not).
This will insert $(Enter) into your text. Upon activation it will expand either to a new-line (CR, LF) or to Enter depending on the insertion mode (whether the "play keys" mode is checked or not).
This will insert $(Ctrl+Enter) into your text. When in the "play keys" mode it will simulate a Ctrl+Enter key press (this key combination causes a multi-line edit field in a dialog box to make a new line, but it will never activate the OK button in that dialog). When in the usual (through clipboard) insertion mode, this metasymbol will expand to a new line (CR, LF).
With this button you can insert any key into your text (works only in "play keys" mode). The key code (along with its coded modifiers) will be inserted into the text.
This will insert the default currency symbol (what will be inserted depends on your international settings).
To insert a dollar sign ($) you must double it ($$). This is because a dollar sign begins every metasymbol in the text [$(Time:...), $(Tab), $(Enter), etc.] so the first dollar sign will be recognized as the metasymbol and the second will be recognized simply as a dollar sign.
You can insert an entire text file into your document by using this button. Each time this hot key is pressed the entire file you name will be inserted into whatever text field or editor you are working in.
Check this box if another application has defined a hot key that you want to by-pass and handle with Hot Keyboard.
When this box is checked, the menu that pops up when you right-click on the Hot Keyboard icon in the system tray contains all your desktop shortcuts. Using this you can access your desktop without having to minimize opened windows.
This is where you can type in your reminder message. This is your message to yourself or to whoever will be using the computer. It will pop up on the screen at the time you set.
A reminder needs to be scheduled. This button lets you schedule it right from here. Note: Hot Keyboard scheduler works slightly different with a reminder. Usually if a macro could not be activated at its designated time it never will be activated. A macro can only be activated if Hot Keyboard is running minimized in the system tray. A reminder macro will be activated as soon as possible after Hot Keyboard is started running minimized in the system tray (if its scheduled time was missed). Note: if you wish to have network schedule (one that is stored on the server) for Reminder macro you have to schedule it from the main Hot Keyboard dialog.
Check this box if you want a sound played when this reminder becomes due and pops up on your screen. You can choose any sound file to be played.
The name of the menu in which the macro will be created. You can separate menu names by \ symbol as you do it within your file system. It is also possible to choose an existing menu from a drop-down list.
The action type of the macro that will be created by Smart Add. If you specify "Let me choose" you will get a simple menu upon hot key press asking what macro would you like to create.
If you check this option Hot Keyboard will automatically fetch the text that is currently selected in your application and use it for macro creation. Otherwise you should manually put that text onto clipboard.
This option adds "Handle with Hot Keyboard" item to the context menu of every file and folder (you see it whenever you press the right mouse button while the cursor is over file or folder in Explorer or over hyperlink in Internet Explorer)
Choose this option if you have not or do not want to use Hot Keyboard macro server.
Choose this and you will get an ability to share macros across the network with others. This will login you to the Hot Keyboard macro server.
Enter server address. You can enter either IP address or host name (as you do when addressing any Internet host).
Correct server port is needed to connect to the server. Default is 21328. In most cases this one will work. Please contact your network administrator to get more information.
Press this button to fill server port input field with default value - 21328.
If the Server doesn't respond within this interval the Client decides to disconnect from the Server. Choose bigger values for slow or unreliable networks.
Login at Hot Keyboard startup.
This option lets you remember entered password. Hot Keyboard stores the password in irreversible form (this means noone (even Hot Keyboard itself) cannot reproduce password text in acceptable time).
Enter your login name here. Contact your system administrator if for some reason you don't know it.
Enter your password. Initial password is set by system administrator, later you can change fro within Hot Keyboard. Call system administrator if you don't know or forgot your password.
This option lets you remember entered password. Hot Keyboard stores the password in irreversible form (this means noone (even Hot Keyboard itself) cannot reproduce password text in acceptable time).
Please select a kind of schedule. Choose Once if you need one-shot execution. Another option lets you run the macro at the daily basis. Select weekly if you want the macro to be run on specific days of week (it could be not just once per week). Monthly gives you a chance to schedule execution at specified day of month (you may also limit monthes to your own set). And for those of yours who used to work with Unix-style cron daemon Hot Keyboard can accept the schedules in cron format.
Enter the time of execution.
Enter the time of execution.
Sets start date to today's.
Sets start date to tomorrow's.
This button gives you access to two major features. First of it lets you specify an end date for the schedule. And second lets repeat the schedule several times.
The daily schedule will be executed at this rate. For example, if start date is January 1 and the number specified in this field is 3 then the macro will be run at January 1, January 4, January 7 and so on.
The weekly schedule will be executed at this rate. For example, if start date is Monday, January 1 and the number specified in this field is 2 then the macro will be run at January 1, January 15, January 29 and so on.
Check this if you want your macro to be executed at Monday.
Check this if you want your macro to be executed at Tuesday.
Check this if you want your macro to be executed at Wednesday.
Check this if you want your macro to be executed at Thursday.
Check this if you want your macro to be executed at Friday.
Check this if you want your macro to be executed at Saturday.
Check this if you want your macro to be executed at Sunday.
This button pops up a dialog that lets you limit the set of monthes on which schedule is to be executed. By default all the monthes are included in this set.
CRON string format:\n <<min> <<hour> [<<day> [<<mon> [<<day_of_week>]]]\nAll components are separated with spaces, no spaces are allowed inside them. 1218 Enter the time to limit repeat process.
Enter the time to limit repeat process.
If the current date is greater or equal than the date specified here and other schedule restrictions are met the macro should be executed.
The schedule could be executed only if the current date is less or equal than the date entered here.
This check affects all the work days (from Monday to Friday).
This is the textual description of the edited schedule.
By choosing this you specify an explicit form of day number.
Just enter the day number here.

Please select a day of week here. This selection (with previous one) completes implicit day specification.
This is the textual description of the edited schedule.
Check this if you want the schedule to do not execute if past some date.
Every time the schedule gets run you may cause series of execution instead of one shot. Just check this if you want. Note: schedule will never be executed if past end date even if its execution is repeat of pre-end-date scheduled run.
Enter repeat rate for the schedule.
You can specify repeat rate in either hours or minutes.
If this option is selected repeat process will continue until the time reaches entered value. If entered time is less or equal than schedule start time repeating will stop next day (of course at specified time). The schedule will be executed if the time is exactly equal to this value (if other conditions on repeat process are met).
Enter the time to limit repeat process.
This check affects Saturday and Sunday.

Normally if you create a menu the dummy item with action set to <<<<none>> appears (menu cannot exist without any items). If you choose this Smart Add item will be created instead. That Smart Add will be tuned to add chosen action to the menu you are to create now.
Enter a command for WinAmp player. If WinAmp is not currently launched it will.
Enables mouse events playback. Note: mouse events are always recorded no matter of this flag. But you can disable its playback.
Terminate connection instead of dialing it. Nothing will happen if connection is not active.
Chech this to have "Options" dialog transferred from Hot Keyboard server every time you login (or when someone else changes options). You have to upload your preferred options to the server (you may do it by pressing "Ok" button in the Options dialog).
Select this to change options for current user (one that currently is logged in). Options will be automatically retrieved from the server if Fetch "Options" dialog data flag is set in Network client settings box.
You must have write access to shared macros to chage global defaults. Note: options stored this way will take effect only if the user did not store his own options.
Select a scope for this schedule. Note 1: to change all-user schedule you must have write access to shared macros. Note 2: you can set user scope to macro if it is located on the server. Global (all users) scope can be applied only for shared macros.
Hot Keyboard may change recorded mouse position for you before playback. Note: this flag will affect only playback, recording is always done in most universal way. Types of processing:\n Absolute \n Mouse position will not change\n Relative to active window\n During recording all the changes of active window are tracked and recorded as special events. Whenever such an event is met in playback it is expected for active window to change too. All the mouse coordinates are given relative to active window left upper corner. This mode is useful if sequence cause some window to appear in unpredictable place of screen.\n Relative to initially active window\n Only initially active window position take part in processing, changes of active window are not tracked.\n Relative to the right bottom screen corner\n Useful if you wish to activate tray icon by your macro\n Relative to initial mouse position\n Useful in graphic applications
Set playback speed. If set to Max value there will be no pauses between events. In such case the speed is determined by the target application's ability to process input.
If you assign a hot key to a menu macro you will see some sequence of underlined letters and digits to the left of items. Default is '1'..'9','A'..'Z'. This option changes it. Note: you may preceed any symbol in menu item with ampersand sign (&) to manually denote hot symbol.
